Our History
The Castle Hotel is a Grade II listed building, parts of which date back to mediæval times. It once contained a steam-powered brewery, including a malt house and drying kilns. Using water from its own well, it produced up to 250 gallons of beer a week.
The Hotel itself
dates from around
1850, when the front
portion of the building was re-built to contain three floors with
accommodation on the first and second floors.
The Hotel Today
The building has been comprehensively renovated by the current owners to provide guests with modern amenities and comforts in a traditional Grade II listed building.
On the ground floor is a public bar with three rooms, one of which has a stone floor and a wood burning stove set in a feature carved stone fireplace. The fireplace was carved by a Bradninch stonemason to echo the twisted oaks of Wistman’s Wood on Dartmoor.
